Earlier this week, the world let out a collective groan over the news that It’s A Wonderful Life would be getting a sequel, this however may not be the case; and the people of the world can breathe a sigh of relief.
In a statement to Variety, Paramount have come out to say that a sequel will not be happening; stating “No project relating to ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ can proceed without a license from Paramount,”….“To date, these individuals have not obtained any of the necessary rights, and we would take all appropriate steps to protect those rights.”
Bob Farnsworth, the producer of the proposed new movie, has come out in their defence though with following comment; “We have spent a lot of time, money and research that leads us to believe that we are clear on any infractions of the copyright,” …. “If anyone feels that have a legal claim, we will be happy to talk with them. I believe that whatever resolution needs to be made will be made amicably, in the positive spirit of the project.”
Whether this legal battle will be sorted out is anyone’s guess at the moment, but it doesn’t look like anyone in the public realm is rushing to see a sequel to this classic movie happen anytime soon.
